WOW Photograph Policy 2025
In the future, all WOW workshop applications should come with a clear warning that photos of workshop participants will be taken during workshop activities by WOW staff and fellow workshop participants. Sometimes workshop participants will be aware that photos are being taken and sometimes they may not. Capturing the WOW workshop experience in photos is a big part of memorializing these events. Photographs from WOW workshops are treasured by participants and help provide insight to those considering attending WOW events. All applicants should be advised that these photos may appear in WOW promotional and marketing materials as well as the WOW website. Any WOW participant may request not to be photographed and WOW staff will make reasonable efforts to honor that request. However, WOW cannot provide any guarantee that a participant will not be photographed. Any WOW participant may request to have their photo removed from the WOW website or WOW marketing materials, or have their face blurred-out to protect their anonymity. In an abundance of caution, applicants with strong objections and/or serious concerns about being photographed should not attend WOW events.
Workshop Photography Policy:
WOW participants may have good reasons to not want their photo taken or posted on WOW social media or WOW marketing materials. WOW respects these women and will make reasonable efforts to support their request:
- Orange dots will be placed on the name badges of those wishing to avoid being photographed.
- The WOW photographer will wear a distinctive and brightly colored hat, or arm bandana which will make them easy to see and identify.
- Participants who do not wish to be photographed will be introduced to the photographer upon arrival, so they can work together to avoid accidentally photographing those who wish to avoid being photographed.
- Team leaders and instructors will be made aware of the significance of the orange dots and will assist in keeping those individuals out of photos, as reasonably possible.
- Any WOW participant appearing in photos posted on the WOW website or WOW marketing materials may request to have their photo removed or face blurred-out to protect their anonymity. WOW will honor these requests, whenever reasonably possible.
- WOW participants will be allowed to take photos at workshops, however:
1) Don’t assume that other participants will want to be included in your photos. Please respect the privacy of other WOW participants.
2) Avoid taking photos while WOW instructors are teaching a class or speaking to the group. Please respect these volunteer instructors.
